CASE STUDIES
Rocky. 2025 My next door neighbour has the sweetest horse imaginable. He might have feathers on his heels but he’s the most beloved, cosseted animal who wants for nothing! That’s why his owner found it so distressing that regularly, he kept getting urinary tract infections which were extremely debilitating for him and necessitated numerous courses of strong antibiotics which never stopped a recurrence of them. Recently, when he was succumbing to yet another of these attacks, I suggested that maybe oils would help his condition. I investigated those oils that target urinary tract, and/or bacterial infections, etc., and brought a variety of possibly suitable ones from which he could choose. He chose three by sniffing and trying to lick them so I diluted his choices in a suitable carrier oil and presented them to him. In all my years of using essential oils, I’ve never seen a horse so eager for them. He sniffed them, licked them from my hand, and sniffed again. His eyes went all droopy and he sighed with contentment. That horse really needed those oils for at least three weeks - another phenomenon I’d never previously witnessed. Two out of the three were his main favourites and he would interchange between them as his number one choice on any given day while he still needed to sniff the third. After those three weeks, he’d gone off the third altogether and was gradually needing less and less of the other two, until one day, he walked away indicating he no longer needed them! Since working with him, he’s so far been hale and hearty with no sign of any recurrence of the infection. And he’s been enjoying life again to the full - under saddle, learning the intricacies of dressage, and playing in the field with his buddy in between. It’s been a joy to watch his progress back to full health. JANE THE COLLIE Looking at this photograph of Jane, it’s hard to imagine that there was ever anything wrong with this dog. However, a few years ago, she was passed on to the West Cork Animal Welfare Group as a young collie whose spirit had been broken while being trained as a sheep dog. When I first saw her, she cowered in a shed, hardly breathing, making no eye contact & willing me to go away. Once a week for over a year, I spent endless hours doing TTouch, giving her oils & Reiki. She began to come out of her shell but got rather aggressive towards her carers. But they continued to give her the care & love she needed. There even came a time when she would reluctantly go for a walk. Her rehabilitation in the rescue centre was complete. Now she needed a good home with very patient & understanding owners. Those marvellous owners appeared out of the blue & took her in to their home. This photo is one of many that they send to the rescue centre. From having been a beautiful dog with a bruised & battered psyche, Jane is now just a beautiful dog who has found love & security. Alternative therapies can help an animal peel away the emotional baggage, promote physical & mental wellbeing, &, most importantly, give an animal a chance to enjoy life again. CHARLIE THE SPORTS HORSE Charlie is a handsome Sport horse. It was love at first sight for me as soon as I walked in to his stable. He was a spooky horse but approaching him gently & quietly he responded immediately. This beautiful bay suffered from warts & Sarcoids. Both are really unsightly but frequently a horse suffering from Sarcoids is euthanized as it’s impossible to cure them. And Charlie could jump like a stag & should have had a bright future ahead. When I came on the scene, he only had the warts but they were in awkward places like one side of his mouth. I worked on him & the warts began to disappear only to be replaced by the Sarcoids. I did an oil test & he chose the oils he needed & the carrier oil. Having made them up, Charlie got the oils morning & evening. He loved them – as you can see in the YouTube clip - & would sniff, lick & have them rubbed in to the Sarcoids themselves. When I came back to see him a few days later, already the worst ones were beginning to disappear, the bleeding & oozing from them had stopped along with the pain & Charlie was a different guy. Although familiar with warts, I’d never seen Sarcoids on a horse & these growths were disgusting to see & both distressing & painful for the horse. Charlie was able to choose the oils he needed with a simple Kinesiology test. That, in itself, is quite amazing as far as I’m concerned & then to see him getting better was the best reward ever. POST SCRIPT to Charlie. I met his previous owner who had called me to help with him. It seems that Charlie is leading the life of Reilly - hunting & pony clubbing. But most importantly, he is warts & Sarcoids free since being treated! Read more case studies here |
